Industrial Transformation

Industrial processing of feedstock into usable materials significantly contributes to climate change, energy use and other sustainability concerns. To become sustainable, industry needs to rapidly transform and change all along the supply chain.

This is especially challenging for energy intensive industry that is characterised by long investment cycles, high carbon intensity, and high trade intensity and are thus exposed to international competition.

Our research focuses on understanding and analysing the preconditions needed for this large-scale transformation to happen but also the consequence that this shift might have on other sustainability goals. Our research includes both technically oriented energy system analysis and policy analysis. Our main topics within this research area are:

    •  Energy and environmental analysis of value chains
    •  Analysis of green industrial polices
    •  Just transition of industry
    •  The international dimension of a global industrial transition
